Soon we'll be starting growth and development in health. A form will be sent home detailing the start date and the areas that will be covered in this unit.

Parents: the growth and development unit is based on the expectations from the old curriculum.

A couple of reminders...

May 14

We have a couple of things on the run, 7A. It's important that we're staying current with the due dates:

We're in the midst of our geography presentations. The first five that we saw today were great! Please remember that we will continue with the rest after the long weekend. Come prepared.

On Tuesday afternoon, we'll be presenting our plays as well. Have those ready to go.

Also please don't forget to bring in your jump rope for heart forms!

Geography Assignment

This is just a friendly reminder that your geography assignment is due next Thursday. The success criteria has been shared with you on Google Drive. Please ensure that you and your partner are working on this assignment everyday in order to finish it on time. We'll begin presentations next week!

Monologues

Here are some tips, 7A:

Be less than two minutes. Two minutes is more than enough to show your stuff. In fact, the auditors have already made their decision after 30 seconds, maybe even less.

Have a clear objective. You can't just stand there and talk. You have to be actively talking to someone you've imagined, and you must be trying to get something from them.

Try to have a distinct beginning, middle, and end. A beginning: A strong first sentence to capture attention. A middle: Lots of juicy content. An end: A strong finish. When your monologue has structure, the auditors are more likely to remember you.

Contain conflict. Drama cannot exist without conflict. Who wants to see a play about everyone getting along?

The Wanted Poster

A few things to keep in mind:

  • you need to include three plausible traits (that are NOT physical, but personality traits)
  • character traits are supported with direct textual evidence
  • APE strategy is used to fully support your inferences
  • Wanted Poster is accompanied with a supported graphic (poster)\
And remember this is due next Wednesday, April 29th!
